Grid Resiliency Grant

Grid Resiliency for Thriving Holyoke Neighborhoods

HG&E is proud to announce that we have been awarded a $460,000 MassCEC Resiliency Grant to support critical upgrades to Holyoke’s electric infrastructure. This investment will help ensure long‑term system reliability while preparing our community for a cleaner, more electrified future.

The Project

The MassCEC grant will be used to replace approximately 1.5 miles of aging overhead spacer cable along Main Street, between Hanover Street and Jones Ferry Road. The existing cable, installed in the 1980's, is reaching the end of its useful life and poses increasing reliability concerns as demand for electricity continues to grow.

Replacing this infrastructure now is essential to reducing outages, improving system performance, and strengthening Holyoke’s electric grid.

COMMUNITY BENEFiT

This project provides several important community benefits:

  • Improved Reliability - New cable will significantly reduce the likelihood of service interruptions for both residents and businesses along this major corridor.
  • Electrification Readiness - As more homes, buildings, and transportation systems shift to clean electricity, Holyoke’s infrastructure must be prepared. This upgrade enhances the system’s capacity to meet rising demand.

Timeline

We anticipate the project will kick off on May 1, 2026 and take approximately 8 weeks to complete.

Our Commitment

HG&E is dedicated to minimizing inconvenience throughout this project. Customers in the project area will receive advance notice, and all construction activities will be carefully coordinated to reduce traffic, noise, and service impacts. Investing in Holyoke’s Energy Future

This grant-funded initiative represents a strong investment in Holyoke’s long-term energy resilience. By replacing aging infrastructure today, we are strengthening grid reliability, preparing for increasing electrification, and supporting Holyoke’s climate and sustainability goals.
